Why Support Local?

Chains have big marketing budgets. Your local dentist, BBQ joint, and basketball coach don't. Here's why choosing local makes a difference.

  • More money stays in your community. Studies show that for every $100 spent at a local business, about $48 stays in the local economy. For chains, it's closer to $14.
  • Local businesses create local jobs. Small businesses account for nearly half of all U.S. jobs. When you buy local, you're helping your neighbors earn a living.
  • You get real expertise and service. Local owners often know their products and customers personally. You're not talking to a call center—you're talking to someone who cares.
  • Local businesses support local causes. Little leagues, school fundraisers, charity events—local shops are usually the first to chip in. Chains tend to give to national programs.
  • Your town keeps its character. Unique storefronts, one-of-a-kind shops, and neighborhood hangouts make a place worth living in. Chains make everywhere look the same.
  • Stronger communities. When you shop local, you build relationships. You know the owner, they know you. That connection matters—especially when you need help.
  • Better for the environment. Local businesses often source locally, stock fewer disposable goods, and don't rely on the same massive shipping and logistics as big-box retailers.
